    Hi all

Here is my new found , need your feedback please, thanks.

My major concern is the top of th e pin. Please see pic below.
The pin is over headed to the ball hinge , is that normal?
Anything should I concern on this?

      Hi Eric

A very nice, original JFS bronze solid that appears unworn.

I have three of these bronze JFS solids and one example has the same notch that yours shows at the top of the ball hinge crimp.

      Best Regards, fischer

Never had one, but may possibly be a "saw cut", to open up, or perhaps "finish" the hinge?

          Hi Eric,

I can only agree with the others, a fine original JFS. I too have seen the notch on a few other JFS badges and is nothing to worry about IMO.

If it doesn't have a hinge and catch, I'm not interested......well, maybe a little

            Hi Eric

As others have pointed out, these do show up occasionally, although the majority of solid JFS do not have the "gap". Maybe, it was early or late, in manufacture and used to locate the pin while the hinge was crimped in. An idea or method thought to help in the putting together of these badges. Something the company just "tried"?

I have a silver like it, and mine has a worn "strange" appearance imo, and would have worried me, unless I had seen a few others with the "gap".

Your badge, apart from the "gap" looks textbook with regard to appearance, finish, hardware etc etc, so I have no doubts about your badge.

            regards
            Graeme

My JFS Bronze has the same gap, which you can see on the attached Picture.

The whole badge can be seen here:

Could this gap have been created when the manufacture cut the recess in the "lump", that should house the pin?

                  Hi Flemming

I do not see the gap in your badge. Are my eyes getting that old !! The gap we are talking about is on the main part of the badge where it is crimped.

Regarding the ball hinge slot, where the pin fits around, I think this whole ball hinge would have been made prior to fitting to the badge.

                  regards

                    Hi Graeme

I have tried to mark the area, where I can see that notch on my badge,

But maybe I am seeing something different?

PS Sorry about the big White area on the Photo. I have just bought me a new program for editing pictures. I used an old Corel Paint Shop Pro XI, but just upgradede to the new version Pro X6.
It doesn't Work 100% as the old one.

                      /Flemming

PS This should have been added as a PS to the post before, sorry!

I think yours is just a dent, and not in the same style as Erics.

Here is another and hopefully clearer. (Not sure who owns the badge so I hope it is ok to post it.)

                          regards

I donĀ“t have problems with the badge shown at the top of the thread but for that one i have a bad feeling. Whoever owns this badge please repost it with better pictures.

                              Hi Greame.
Doesn't look the same now, when you show that picture.
I will try to make a new shot of my badge and the hinge.

This is very interesting I Think.
