Nice original badge, might be made by Juncker. The hook looks resoldered/replaced, so does the needle...

    Regards,

A nice original Juncker, although not in the best condition. Might be able to be cleaned up a bit more.

This looks to be the type with no frosted finish applied, just straight nickel silver.

If it doesn't have a hinge and catch, I'm not interested......well, maybe a little

          PAB SILVER hollow back PORSCHE????

I would like to see better pics of the hinge and catch as well. I also think it has a replaced pin and possible repair to hardware.

Ofcourse Daniel, many of the early PAB awardees polished off every bit of frosted silver finish from their badges just to drive you nuts 70 years later.

              Hi rispolilibero......

Nice original badge, might be made by Juncker.
I second that. Nice PAB 'attributed' to Juncker.

Exactly! And they almost everytime totally forgot to polish the back and the recesses of these pieces...

I agree, looks like the real deal, but not in the best condition. Pin has also be replaced here.
                  Kind regards,
                  Giel

Except the solder for the hinge and catch, they always managed to clean that part so neatly too

In my opinion all the early assault badges by Juncker were "finished", but the issue figuring "finished"/"unfinished" lies in a number of variables. These early badges saw extensive use, most worn daily, from beginning to end. Not sure I follow Tom on the "polishing" of the solder, but in my opinion the PAB in this thread displays the kind of natural "patina", that only comes after many, many years. I call it "spiderweb". Another thing that affects the way these badges "patinate" is the base metal, which also varied in make-up: The nickel/brass alloy wasn't a "consistent mix". Further, and what makes things ever more complicated is the fact that, some, l@@k (and were) made to a higher standard, including the "finish". Yes 70 years of switching hands will drive a collector crazy. I think one main issue lies in the fact collectors of this type of badge prefer "untouched", which is the likely scenario, "for the most part", to the combat vet below. Anyway, all said there, I like the futhermucken badge, even though I don't collect them. As far as any replacement hardware, I'm not havin' a problem with it...

P.S.: You have to ask yourself a question, why would this same company put a copper undercoat (before applying a "finish" -bright and shiny Brennlac) to their later production zinc based IABs + Spangen? --Then there's their earlier Cupal badges, and Spangen, and Iron Crosses --all of which received a "similar" Rhodium process.

                        --Rgds,
                        Ken
