    GAB by fo

    Hi All
Picked up this GAB by fo at the SOS. The catch seems kind of funky and I was wondering if I could get some input as to whether it was replaced or not. I have searched the forums and this catch seems to be different? On their black wound badges there are catches similar and this one has aged with the rest of the badge so I need guidance?
    What are your thoughts?

        Hi Steve,

The catch looks correct for FO, but looks like it was glued back on to me.

        Tom
If it doesn't have a hinge and catch, I'm not interested......well, maybe a little

          Catch

          Hi Tom
It was nice to chat with you at the show and see you again. All the coloring matches around that area and I cannot see any gap or seam or glue. It is on there tight I put pressure on it and it doesn't budge. Is it perhaps period solder repair possibly?

Is this not glue Steve? Looks really shiny, like glue. Also doesn't seem to have any finish on it or look like the surrounding color which makes me think it is a repair.

            Tom

p.s., great to see you again at the show, wish we had more time to catch up.

              Yes

              Tom
After closer scrutiny yes it is glue. I could not see the shine of the glue and should have been more vigilant. FO's are rare so it is not a total loss.
              Cheers

                Hi Steve

imo a definite repair, but for me it is likely the catch is original to the badge.

It may be the case that other fo GABS have that "base" to the foot of the catch and that they are positioned in a hollow for the catch. Yours likely pulled out, and was such a tight fit, hard to put back in, so was glued higher than usual.

                Hope that makes sense

                Still a nice badge

                regards
                Graeme
