    GAB on the e-stand

    Hi guys,

I sold this GAB lately to a nice member in Croatia. The buyer is now uncertain, that the badge I sold is indeed a tombak GAB. For me there are no doubts.

    What is your opinion?

    Regards,

    Daniel

Tombac beyond a doubt. What does he see that indicates otherwise?

This badge has the attributes of an early brass/tombak hollow GAB, but it may require more close examination of worn areas and particularly any spots that are black or dark gray. I recently purchased an early RK GAB that I thought was all brass/tombak. However, upon posting it on WAF, more observant members pointed out an area of missing finish that turned out to be the underlying zinc base metal. At times, TR badge manufacturers used this technique of coating zinc badges with brass/tombak to increase adhesion of the final coating. Just because the yellow brass/tombak is showing on the high points doesn't automatically indicate the entirety of the base metal is brass/tombak. As advised, I have first hand knowledge of this revelation.

                Hi Daniel,

Looks like tombak to me as well.

If it doesn't have a hinge and catch, I'm not interested......well, maybe a little
