    Gab Trio

    Hi Guys,

Not much luck in Ciney yesterday when it comes to PAB's, One little buntmetall mini and thats it. Saw some more originals but with prices up to €190 it didn't really felt like you were getting a good deal.

Oh well in the absence of nice affortable PAB's to complete my collection and under the influence of Frank's ongoing book project on the GAB I tend to look at GAB's with a little more interest lately.

Yesterday I picked up a nice solid zinker by the unknown maker responsible for the Cupal GAB's.

Since I already had the cupal variant and it's hollow buntmetal brother all of a sudden I found myself with a little family that I wanted to share with you.

Do you guys think GAB's are as contagious as PAB's?

      Philippe,
Good looking badges! I used to collect them but it was taking revenue away from my PAB intrests. So I gave them to my son (even the fake one! ). Now I have more money for my first love which is the PAB.

Nice GAB's! By the way Phillipe there is no shame in collecting GAB's. I know everone wants to collect PAB's, but it just depends on what you want to collect.
        I once flew in a B-17, B-24, & a B-25. Next, I want to fire an 88 round.

          Hi Eric,

There for sure isn't and just wait untill Frank's book hits the market, that will be an eye opener

I'll sure add some more to my collection but I intend to focus on the hollow buntmetall badges just like I'm trying to do with the IAB's lately.

I have always liked GAB's. It is a pity that so few are maker marked though. I think if more were maker marked they would be more popular. I do believe they are far less common than IAB's.

I think the popularity of collecting the same badge comes from the different makers of the pieces...look at PAB's for example...you can really have fun with those..ie so many makers, so many variations both marked and unmarked. (In fact I strongly suspect there are even those on the forum who specialize in collecting mainly PAB's ).

190 Euros for a PAB..about what you are starting to see them at shows here for...over 200 dollars sometimes...with the Euro at 1.27 it makes it really hard for guys in the USA to buy from European dealers.

After spending time with Frank at his house and seeing his OPUS to the GAB I think we will all be surprised to learn how many variants/makers are out there. You just need to look...

                  Hi John,

To be a little more acurate the €190 was the asking price for a mint hollow buntmetall bronze F&R. Compared to the last one Winkler sold in silver for €300 that maybe still was acceptable but it for sure will take me a long time before I'm used to these new "flea"market prices.

PS: I payed €50 for the little zinc GAB posted above

I am glad if my book can give the GAB the place it deserves in your collections. I am sad at the same time that Philippe starts to find an interest in them now as well, and already starts grabbing these away from me.
At least he is VERY helpful with the book project and supports me with very nice scans! Like many of you, and you all will be mentioned guys.

I agree that the GAB has not been very "collectible" up to now because it hardly ever is maker marked. But I promise that with my book a classification will be possible, each maker and his variants will be shown. This will make it easy to find "one of each kind" as it became so popular for the PAB and IAB already.
                    Cheers, Frank

I have had these ones for awhile, I just bought them because of the condition, especially the "W" one which is MINT. Do we know who made the others?

Download a free resizing program. I have used this one, very simple.

                              @Darrell:

The book is about the GAB and covers all makers (known and unknown) with all of their variations, which are sometimes up to 5-6 per maker. Numbered GABs are also covered in that way.

It will be available in Q1 2005 in English language if it proceeds as planned. If you keep visiting here, you won´t miss it.
                              Cheers, Frank
