      Hello,

This badge is supposedly a Young Cossack's Badge that was given to recognize graduates of the School of Young Cossacks, in service of Germany with the XV Cossack Corps.

Not much is known about this particular award and many doubt the existence of such a thing. It may be nothing more than a fantasy creation, although I really can't say one way or the other. If there are originals of a badge such as this they would be considered very rare.

Ailsby claims that originals of this badge were die-stamped iron, measuring 52mm high x 42.5mm wide. They would therefore be magnetic and hollow-backed. He says that one turned up in a POW camp in Yorkshire, confiscated from a Russian Cossack prisoner.

The badges like the one that you show (solid-backed and marked with the name of a manufacturer in Leipzig) are considered to be postwar copies, produced in Czechoslovakia.

      Best regards,
      Tom
