Photos are a little dark or blurry but it appears to lack the detail on the reverse to be a good AS in triangle.

Based on these pictures I'd say it's okay, looks like an AS in triangle type 3.3.3 in the Panzer book.

That's great that you have family history to go along with the badge. That you got it from your grandfather who was in Europe makes it's so much better it's not just something you bought at a flea-market or through a dealer. A story to tell always makes an item more interesting, very nice!!
