    Unknown badge - WW2?

    Hi

I found this a few weeks ago on WW2 positions with a metal detector.

I was browsing some dealers sites and found it on the logo at the top lift hand side
    beside there name.

    See here - http://thirdreichdepot.com/about.html

It has arrows on the top and a sun at the bottom - With blue and white.

I didn't think anything of it until I seen it on this site - to be honest I thought it was nothing to do with the second war and most likely a boy scout badge etc..

Here is a pic of it coming out of the ground - I make clips of my WW2 finds so I picture everything.

    Any ideas?

    Hi,

What you've found is American. It is what is variously referred to as a Distinct Insignia (DI), Distinct Unit Insignia (DUI) or Unit Crest. This one is for the 22nd Infantry Regiment, first authorised and approved in 1923. WW2 or earlier versions were screwback or pinback. Post WW2 versions tend to be clutchback (two nail-like posts over which a special device is placed).

      Thanks for your response!

This one has a pin clasp similar to WW2 German tinnies.

      Are these collectible?

Yes, but maybe not in ground dug condition.

If your example has a thing German pin like those commonly found on German tinnies, then your example is probably Occupation period (early post-WW2).

As you know where it was found you could probably check the unit history of the 22nd IR and see when they were stationed at/near there. That will give you a more accurate time period.
