You are right, Norm. I'm thinking more along the lines of EKs rather than war badges, but even there I am no expert. DP's example from Tom's book does show the inferior quality - the leaves on that 1st Pattern wreath are pretty weak (and this is basically comparing pre-war quality to 1944 quality).

      Veteran brought back examples,

On the left, "One piece unknown maker" (cupol stamping) ???

On the right "One piece Juncker- first issue with extra filing" ???

Have the details of where both came from but will let items judge it,

Top image, "One piece unknown maker" note: variation economy type pin (1 pin broken by some one trying to see the reverse )

Bottom image, "One piece Juncker- first issue with extra filing" note: long pins

              Hi Chris,

Very interesting. If I'm not mistaken, your Luftwaffe clasp is the first one to be posted on this thread without the extra flashing left by the trimming stamp above the bow at the bottom of the wreath. From what we had seen so far, I was assuming that the Luftwaffe clasp, being introduced last, lacked hand-trimming and always retained the flashing after the trimming stamp was used, unlike the Heer and KM clasps for which the two variations were apparent. Your clasp however, with hand-filed cutouts, would indeed fit the theory of being the earliest production run for this award.

              Best regards,
              ---Norm

                Thanks Norm,

yes the lack flashing has always intrigued me. However, you can clearly see that it has been hand finished when you magnify it. The only other one that I have seen like that is an example which Bill Shea had for sale over 10 years ago. He had one like mine and one with the flashing like the others on this thread. He described them as both having come out of an old very advanced LW collection.

My one was picked up in 1945 so I have always assumed that this type was the first of them that actually made it to the front line troops,

Reverse side on both has as much detail as the front,

Just to bring this great thread back up, why was Honor expelled? Who is he? So wishing that a book or some sort of hard-copy reference would be published.

Additionally, there are quite a number of pictures no longer active, which is a shame.
