Good observation Andor, that's indeed what it is. These Deumers in most of the cases came with the very typical Deumer catch which can be seen on plenty of their awards. This thick wire catch is a strange variant, as there's no single other combat award which shares the same thing!

Here is a better pic of a catch that is still intact. It is a strange catch indeed, with the base part being circular.

Giel, I have seen this type of catch on other awards (not combat), and I am sure it was on a RAD cap badge.
