Would appreciate thoughts on this one...it looks like an original to my eye, but I know there are some pretty good fakes out there

From the backside shot, the catch looks a bit "thin" IMO. Can you provide a 3/4 close-up of it?

I'd pass on that one personally. Just not getting the "warm and fuzzy" off that one. This maker made lots of them and better (text) examples to be found....

If these are the only pics you have then I would also give it a miss. Difficult to be sure from those pics, but the obverse surface looks "rough" in places, and with the thin catch that Ken has pointed out, these are not good signs.
