Pawn Shop Panzer Assault - Is it real?

    Guys,

I would definitely appreciate some insight here. I collect headgear and edged weapons. A friend picked up this panzer assault badge and I am trying to validate this piece for him. I don't recognize the maker on this, as these are out of my collecting field.

I thank you for your responses. He'll want to know if this is a good piece. I believe he paid around $50-$75 for it.

    Good collecting!

Bad news I am affraid, as this is not a real Hermann Aurich PAB. The hinge and catch are wrong for this maker.

Sorry, like Al said, wrong hinge & catch. Also, flat back on this maker is wrong.

Yep, like the guys said, its bad.
Still, these are some of the best copies ever made and a lot of people fell for them in days gone by. You can still find them lurking on lots of dealer and internet auction sites, and people are still buying them.

And that's why I don't collect these things!

Thanks guys. Once again the expertise of the forum is invaluable. I sure did like the looks of it. Shows how little I know and how good the fakes are.

And I really appreciate seeing the reverse of a real one. I'll break the bad news to my friend. And I'm disappointed too. I was going to buy it from him if it survived the inspection!

                Good collecting and God bless,

                William

                  William:

Before the growth of forums such as this and the internet in general a lot of guys got fooled by these badges and others because there was no way to share such information so quickly.

                    William,
This fake is one of the very best out there. If it were not for the net just about everyone would have one of these in their collection. Have you ever seen one that is in mint condition? They are very nice! They are every bit as good as all of the ones attributed to Mr. Floch. For all we know this could be one of his also. If not for our forum and others this would be accepted as the real deal.

A little over a year ago I would have bought it myself if not for my deciding to join this forum and learn about what I love to collect.
