Zimmermann IAB in silver

Hi guys,

please find attached some further close-ups of the catch. In my opinion there are no signs of a repair or of any new solder. I think that the hole in the catch-plate was made during the production process, because it has the same form as the catch itself.
The badge was already discussed at different forums and it was explained to me that the sunken-in catch is the result of too much heat during the soldering. In my opinion Zimmermann had problems many a time with the temperature in their soldering process. You cann see that as well on my other example.

If you search for other Zimmermann examples you will find also other examples where the catch is sunken in the catch-plate. Also in the IAB book of Sascha Weber you can see an example where the catch is sunken-in a little bit in the catch-plat.

I would like to get further comments on these doubts.

Based on the reverse picture it looks to me that the area around the catch has another color compared to the hinge area.

Is this correct or is it bad lightimhg in the photo?

the colour is maybe a little bit darker around the catch, but there is not a big difference!

Hi guys,

I've cleaned the area around the catch now and I think there is really a repair. Without the dirt the plate really looks to be cutted and the catch is under the plate. I was convinced before that this is normal because of too much heat during the soldering, but now after the cleaning it can't be.
I'm sorry that I had doubts about some opinions!

Thanks again for all your help! I will refund the money to the buyer and I hope that the dealer where I've bought it will take it back.

I would say that the original catch broke off and was replaced by a new one at the place from the old one.

The two pics in post # 17 tell the story very well imo.

You can clearly see from those pics that there is a cut in the catch plate that is bigger than the catch, and also that it looks to be hand finished. Rough edges and not quite straight lines.

This could never be caused by too much heat.
