Hi guys,

I'm not getting a good feeling about the one. I must admit that the catch, pin, and hinge looks very convincing, but the clasp itself looks very crude when you compare it with an original. Seems to me like the clasp is a casting. I'm not liking the silver finish either.

I think the clasp is an original, but possibly ground dug and probably refinished. The plate and pin are in very rough shape, typical of ground dug pieces because these items are made from iron. I think it was cleaned up as best they could and then refinished with a new silver finish to hide the pock marks in the zink base metal, which you can see on the grenade handle, but completely covered by the silver finish.

I suppose this could be an original clasp, but I would actually want to examine it in-hand to be sure. I would never want to buy this one based on the pictures alone. When I saw the rust on the pin I thought the same: ground-recovered or possibly just improper storage in a damp place. That could certainly explain the pitted appearance of both the front and back as well as the rust. But I can't get over how crude the recess for the backing plate is. I have never seen such a sloppy job on one of these Deschlers before. The recess is always neat and square to the clasp. Maybe the backing plate has been replaced and the recess was messed up when trying to fit a new backing plate? The area circled in red also concerns me as I have never noted a lap of material on one of these Deschlers. Maybe this one was not properly deburred?

I´m the one who offered it for a trade. I can tell for sure that this is a good and original CCC

I checked the silvering with aceton and nothindg did come off. I also see no signs that the backing plate was replaced.

For me a good, late war piece. Not the best strike and material quality, but still original.
