    Iab id?

Sincere apologies for posting these photos and asking for an opinion, but I don't really want to take the IAB's out of the packets and risk damaging the cellophane.

Is there any way you IAN experts could give an opinion as to the makers from the pictures shown?

    Thanks,

    Allan

      Hi Allan,

The left one is by a still unknown maker, typically known as the "pillow crimp". One possible maker could be B H Mayer since a wound badge with the same crimping technique has been found marked with an L/18.

The one on the right is hard to determine, I can't really see the obverse design. Also hard to see the reverse through the cello as well, but it seems that the cutouts have very sharp edges to them which is a bad sign IMO. There is only one IAB I know of with very sharp edges and it is thought to be a fake, so try to get some better scans of pics of this one so we can study it better. A scanner may work better than a camera to cut down on the glare.

If it doesn't have a hinge and catch, I'm not interested......well, maybe a little

Here you are guys, I took the badge out of the cellophane, if it's a bad one I need to know.

              Thank you.

                One more.

Must admit it's one ugly looking badge.

                Very poor quality.

Hey Allan, I would venture to say that IAB is a cast fake. Very crude in appearance. That pillow crimp in the cellophane is really cool though!

                    Hi Allan,

Yep, thats the nasty bastard I was thinking of, so called "melting fake".

Didn't you already post this one before, back in January??

                      That was another one Tom.

I bought a few of these years ago from a well know Hamburg dealer, all came in the LDO cellophane packets.

Win some lose some is the name of the game I suppose.

You sure about that Allan?? Barring the lighting differences, I see the same discolorations and zinc-pest spots on the one you posted back in January....

                            Hi Allan

These have been around for a few years now, quite some time before Fischer coined the nickname.

Check out the second badge in the fakes Gallery

                            http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/foru...d.php?t=102018

Frank highlighted these in a good thread a long time back, and the thread gives added info..

I think it was your badge discussed nearly 10 years ago Allan.

                            cheers
