We came outside the fair hall in Munich to have a drink as it was quite hot that day. When I just reached the terrace I realised I needed to go to the toilet, which sucked because the toilet was back all in again. Ah well, I turned and walked back in and did my thing. When I walked out the men's room a man was just pulling out some black riker mounts out of a big box and I had a look. Old zink IAB's, some fakes, some good things priced too high, but also a repaired old bugger which made the whole trip worth it.
So hold on tight there because what you'll see below is a complete unknown PAB design untill now, which was already known in the IAB world though. As with this PAB, the slightly later early variant was already known, but for some reason their even earlier variant was only very limited produced.
I present to you the earliest Meybauer cut out swastika PAB. A PAB simular to the earliest Meybauer IAB with cut out swas, definitely when looking at the eagle on top of the wreath. The rest of the badge is really something else. It's a lot wider than any other PAB and made very flat. The design is from top to bottom completely different from its later made friend altough some simularities can be noticed. A very very good link between this one and the later model are of course the 7 wheels in the design! The grass zone was completely reorganised BUT the middle rock stayed a very close match, just looks at the little typical triangle on the left rock!
This particular badge seemed to have had a rough time when looking at the condition of it. The repaired catch and bent head only confirm this.
BUT for me, after all this, very big questionmark occurs when having this badge in hand. Would have loved seeing a 0,01mm silver trace so it could fit the global picture, but this appears to be a bronze grade! About 20% of this bronze-copper top finish can still easily be noticed in all the small and deeper located areas. This breaks with all common knowledge thinking that early tombak Meybauers were awarded in '39 and early 40's.
Still, for me my toilet visit was worth more than gold!
