A study of the steel issue IAB - Heubach design

Just added this silver grade, 4-stem, "Heubach design", steel issue (magnetic) example to my collection. A little different from the 5-stem in bronze, but not by much. No known examples, in the 4-stem bronze, by this "unknown maker".

I think if you check all the leaves you will see a marked difference between these two badges. Many of the leaves have a different design, not just the top right leaf that is used for the nickname of these.

So certainly different dies for these two.

I agree, and see, the glaring differences too, but remember, what everyone calls Juncker N/S, also changed their die a few times. There's a couple things consistent though: the base metal and the thickness on the sprigs. IMO, the 5 stem hollow (steel issue), silver grade, would be in between the two I've shown. Maybe two different makers, maybe an evolution of one maker, but we'll get there... Another thing too, and I've mentioned this before, there are no known examples of the bronze grade 4-stem in the steel issue. So, there's a very good chance, IMO, both these IABs came from the same maker.

Let me add to what I said on the steel bronze. At some point during the production of the 5-stem steel issue (silver grade), they started production of the bronze steel issue hollowback IAB.
