    Mis-stamped Infantry Assault Badge

    Hello all,

This is an interesting Infantry Assault Badge.

I am certain it is genuine but it looks like the maker mark was not stamped with enough pressure to imprint the mm letters.

I believe this is supposed to be a FZS - Fritz Zimmerman und Sohne in Ludenscheid manufacturer or GWL - Gerbruder Weger in Ludenscheid.

If anyone has any inputs many thanks!

    Thank you!
    Scott

Intresting, never seen that before. Reguardless it is a good Wiedmann.

Nice bronze grade "Wied" man. I like the thin nature of this badge. Great set up too.

              Hi Scott,

I agree with everyone else. It's a very nice Bronze Infantry Assault Badge, produced by E. Ferdinand Wiedmann in Frankfurt am Main.

Here is a picture of what the logo looks like: a stylized 'W' with five notches directly above and all within a circle. The illustration in the inset shows that the five notches are actually 'E. FERD.'

              Best regards,
              Tom

Hinge is similar style to the CLTB (shinckel) ...it should have the curved pin, as I have one from the vet that no nimrod had ever got his hands on . SUPER NICE IMO.

Hello my friends! Thank you for correcting and helping me on the maker mark of Weidmann! I did a search on all the maker marks and didnt see this one listed w/ the circle. Thank you for the visual example Tom!

                        I appreciate the quick responses.

I have not seen it either.

The only explanation for me, is that this maker mark was stamped at the point that the punch was damaged or had deteriorated badly. Once this was spotted, I can imagine the punch being discarded and that is why we do not see more of these.
I believe Wiedmann had several punches for their maker marks and they likely continued with a good one.

Scott, an interesting badge for sure.

                          thanks for posting

                            Hi guys,

This is a first for me too, hard to imagine what happened to the stamp to make it look like this. I don't see any traces of the inner letters at all, just the circle?! Weird.

                            Tom
If it doesn't have a hinge and catch, I'm not interested......well, maybe a little

Strange, but the finish and everything matches my example
