    Help with GAB please

    Hi . Can you help me please with this GAB. I can't find a matching one in Graeme'gallery. Steinhauer & Lück seems the closer one but not totally identical.
    Is it original? Has it been repaired ?

              I agree, a fine S&L.

              This particular badge must have received a different kind of finish as most of these badges keep there finish very well.

                  Or no finish at all, and its a leftover piece that was put together postwar. Notice that the catch was first soldered to the center of the badge (like 57ers), but was then moved down to its "normal wartime position". We have seen this on other "questionable" S&L badges like the Monster PABs and some GABs with the 57 scrape on the pin, which I suspect are all postwar products by S&L IMO.

                      Here is a similar S&L badge with the "questionable" soldering area in the center of the badge. This one has a bogus BSW mark added to it, another red flag for these badges IMO.

                        The reason I question the location of the catch on these "monster" GABs is that the 57er GABs made by S&L have the catch located in the middle. In my opinion, this is not a coincidence but rather evidence that these monster GABs were put together at the same time and by the same workers as the 1957er badges. Once the workers realized their mistake, they removed the catches and lowered them to the correct location. For this reason (and others such as the 1957 scrape theory) I believe these badges are postwar put together.

                          I agree with Chad, that it is a 1.15.3 in Franks numbering system.

                          Some interesting thoughts from Tom, worth keeping in the back of the mind.
