    srtange Pab

Need some opinions on this one, other than someone painting the eagle
The holes look like they came originally this way, there are bosses where the
holes are, and the cuts around the wreat look like it was made this way.
    Any help with this one?
    thank you

      Hi waffendude

Looks like a complete modified original Daisy PAB which has been repainted once. Interesting is the black eagle, it wouldn't be the first time I see an army combat award with something painted black!
      Kind regards,
      Giel

If it doesn't have a hinge and catch, I'm not interested......well, maybe a little

The holes could be made for attaching the badge on a tunic or more likely on a fotoalbum.

Maybe I'm used to seeing more detail on these lately, as there seem to be plenty of "BM" and zinc based hollowbacks. Anyway, glad it's original, but the "Hero" is getting closer (see pics).

My guess is that the reverse hardware was broken in the field and modified to be sewn to the tunic. There are hundreds of photos attesting to such usage.

As Chuck noted, there are many wartime photos to attest to the fact that combat badges were modified as such. Fitted snugly to the uniform there was less chance of the badge being pulled off of it. The badge in question is orginal. A unique example.

                  Thanks for the comments gentlemen
I was leaning towards modified for a tunic also.
Whoever modified it spent some time on it
and did a good job IMO.
Still not sure who or when the bird was painted black

More common in the infantry... Here's a shot of a Meybauer IAB that's been sewn down to the tunic -probably because the catch breaks off on these easily.

...would help to have the "shot"...

                        Hi Ken
                        Thanks for the pic
Not sure if it's common but I have an SS
Officer visor that has the eagle attatched with thread

The possibility on field repairs and such like are endless, but it's up to the market to agree on the price, based on condition and so forth. BTW, I know even less on the SS stuff than I do on PABs, but I try eh Chet?

P.S.: That pic below was taken from a press photo in my personal collection.

                            PAB in Battle

This Battle tested original Daisy PAB that was field altered has a charm and uniqueness missing from some in minty condition. Leaves you wishing it could relate its past and Glories on forgotten Battlefields.
