I would like to get some opinions about this silver IAB bag.

Well this my opinion, the packet is genuine without a doubt and the maker mark is just fine and genuine.

Now this is the tricky bit.......the designation (IAB part)!!! This packet is for one of the 'Flowers' War medals, it's synonymous with the Czech medal.

The nice dark precise print of the maker mark dosen't match with the designation (IAB part) nor does the packet really with this type of award......for various theorectical reasons, theres a multitude of them all reasonable.....and it's not for me to denouce or approve them, because I can't anyway.

Two main options here to consider as the pic goes:

- A genuine packet with no designation then reused for another award other than the intended Czech one i.e the IAB and had the designation hand stamp printed on at a very much later date. Making use of the materials at hand.

- The second one is that the IAB designation is a post war stamping on the original 'Czech' medal packet for use with a more expensive item and desirable IAB. There are enough mint IAB's around and these packets aren't 'rare' at all. Perhaps someone found a stockpile of them ??? I don't know.

So there we have it in my opinion, not the first 'Czech' medal packet I've seen with the IAB designation 'hand stamped' on it there are a couple more about on the forum that I've been asked about.

Unless it was 'tried and tested' via modern methods of deduction......who knows, we can only guess or assume.....or rather this is all I can say really.

Is the maker mark an IAB maker ? Are all these 'stamped packets' the same maker and the designation the same ? I'll have to have a further look into this for you.

Right, here are some exaples of packets of IAB that I have to hand.

As Marcus will confirm IAB/GAB/TBB were also presented/sold in the 'universal carton', whether bronze or silver.

The numbered GAB/TBB were also presented/sold in packets cartons too.

I haven't posted pictures of the IAB as we are concerned here with the packets only, right Marcus?

Dear Allan,

May I mention that the IAB in the cello packet is highly questionable? It is in my opinion a fake which tries to look very worn. The interesting part is, the exceptionally extensive wear is ALWAYS in exactly the same positions for these fakes. They come with bogus maker marks too.
Just check these areas for reference: flattened bayonet tip and flattened wreathband "pearls".
