    SS medal help

    Hi guys,

This one puzzles me. I have studied threads and photos.... I like some details, but cannot make a 100% judgement on this.

I am leaning towards bad, but please give your opinions. The pale tarnish worries me though.

Hi Will. I don't collect these, but I was curious and did some lookin', and, it matches another deemed fake from another site. The eyelet/ring, on top, is a little too thin -and the wreath lacks the "umpa"/quality compared to originals IMO.

Thanks Ken. The eyelet does seem thin. These medals are difficult. I think there are variations in maker and some great fakes.....

The stippling isn't quite up to snuff either IMO.

I will hasten to add I do not own this medal...

It looks like I won't be either. I do appreciate your input, as opinions of others help in these matters

The pictures are terrible, but it might be a legit type II. The ribbon, however, looks bad.

You gotta ask yourself a few questions:

                1) Why for the terrible pics?
                2) Why is the ribbon bad?
                3) Why, even with the terrible pics, don't we "see" the tail end of the number 4?
                4) You can automatically disclude from it's features being that of Petz and Lorenz or Deschler
                5) There may be one out there that requires "further study", but don't match this badge.

Perhaps its just my monitor but the base metal appears grey and most likely zink.(the white residue also suggests that)
If so, its an instant dud.

This medal is 100% a fake, nothing matchs with the known originals, even the base metal is wrong.

Ken, these medals have the tail end of the number for, if willcpfc will post some better pictures I'm 100% sure you will see it.

Those skinny runes are a dead giveaway...it could be the 'Stepped-Rune Fake.

Agreed. A bunch of red flags.
