            Hi Greg,

            Very nice original JFS, textbook 1st Pattern as you correctly assessed.

            I would hit that one with a little vaseline and it will looks great.

                    Updated photos after light vaseline treatment, the obverse has come up really nice.

                      I agree Greg, but if you want to take off some of that "wet look" you can further the clean up with a fine artists brush. I don't like wiping because it may do damage to the finish. If anything, try "dabbing", with a soft cloth, to remove the initial excess -and then use the artist's brush to clean the grooves etc. Here's a bronze badge I recently "treated".

                      P.S.: The one on the black background is the "before"...
