You need to post a pic of the hardware. For now my guess is most likely copy.

            Hello,

I'm curious. Is your badge magnetic? All the examples of this type that I have encountered have been magnetic. The badge itself looks convincing, but something is definitely wrong with the hinge and the catch. The hinge is way too thick and what I can see of the catch does not look correct. Maybe a real badge but with replaced hardware?

Here is a Werner Redo SA Defense Badge for comparison:

            Best regards,
            Tom

Notice that on the three examples I posted, the word 'DER' is not spelled out but abbreviated 'D.' Also notice that the town name of SAARLAUTERN is split up into two lines:
                    SAAR-
                    LAUTERN

On the example posted by Helene, 'DER' is spelled out and 'SAARLAUTERN' is in smaller lettering and all on one line.

Originals can be found both ways, so those differences do not disqualify the badge that started this thread.

But the attachment hardware used by Werner Redo was pretty consistent on the SA Defense Badges.

                    Best regards,
                    Tom

Hello Tom, Your photos look like they have been professionally taken or are you the photographer? Anyway they look better than mine. The pin on my badge is quite thin, but now after looking at some of your examples the hinge on mine is not of the same quality. The catch does look like it has been resoldered though. I will take some photos of the hardware. That could be a possiblilty, that the hardware has been changed. My badge is not magnetic. Thanks for the interest and opinions Tom.

                        Hi Helene,

The fact that your badge is non-magnetic, combined with the incorrect attachment hardware spells doom for it. I'm afraid it stands no chance of being an original badge with replaced hardware but is just an outright fake, as the others have stated.

                        Best regards,
                        Tom

Considering that i have not uploaded a better photo of the hardware, i don't think anyone could really give an opinion. I have found several S.A. Sports badges identical to mine for sale on this forum, some that have included links that back up the authenticity. I have found that after comparing these to mine, the front of my badge is crisp and has good detail. So, it's looking like it is an original badge with altered hardware? I will always keep an open mind and take in the opinions that are offered. Thanks Tom
