          Hi Mark,

          Extremely interesting

It not on .A.S but a A.S. just like my example. And only the second one I have ever seen. I can even recognize the ZMcode on the reverse of the grass area.

I always thought my badge, that is made out of zink but came for sure out of the same die, was some kind of test badge, used to test a new base coating. So I wonder if yours really is a buntmetall badge or also a zinker but with an other type of base coating.

Really would love to get my hands on this badge. Great find and very nice to see another ZM code.

Mark...?well Paul....i guess that is an enigma...my feeling is this is brass....are you sure that yours is zinc? what does it weigh?...this feels like brass, and the smashed eagle head just shows brass throughout...no indication of zinc...the catchon the reverse is soldered straight on.....i would have to go with the buntmetal with a heavy plating story...so there are 2 variations?

                Sorry MIKE

Now that you mention it, no I'm not sure that mine is zink. On the area's were my badges is worn there is only something looking like rust visible but the badge is not magnetic and I really can't see the base metal anywhere. The weight is 21,5 grams.

kind of wild that they would make a brass and a zinc version....change the back dies and then discontinue it....i never realized that there were 2 variations of this...i would love to see one of these brass versions in the bronze grade...how about some of those bronze grades being posted here that other members have.....

                      Mike,
A great find! Too bad about some idiot grabbing the eagles head with pliers or whatever.

                        Hi Mike,

Been thinkng about this badge all they long but it really doesn't make much sense to me.

Taken in to account that your badge also features what looks like a Z and an M my theory that his might have been a code to recognize the base coating after finishing the badges doesn't make much sense either.

Frank once told me that the rust on the worn highlights of my badge could be the result of an iron containing base coating and that really made sense to me. Never again did I encounter that type of corrosion on any other type of PAB or on any other badge.

As far as I'm concerned and although I can't see the base metall on my badge it is my believe that both badges are exactly the same and are made out of the same kind of material. Taken in to account that the .A.S variant is already an extremely rare badge I find it very difficult to believe that there could have existed 2 different types of 20 times rarer A.S. hollow backs.

Well we can only hope that with the passing of time some others might see the light of day. Keeps us busy doesn't it

i concur....i am still coming to grips with 2 variations of this style....i would so love to see a straight up bronze version of this badge, i think that would be very cool....i know the bronze grades exist for the zinc version(someone please post one).....obviously it could not have been a large production run for either but why would they make 2 different???
can you post a picture of the rust you were talking about on yours Philippe?
                          thanks

                            Hi Mike,

Here we probably have a different opinion, I don't think our badges are different.

I'm also confident that nobody will post an other of these PAB's, not for the time being at least. I have been looking for another one for 3 years now and know quite a few collectors of PAB's but nobody ever even saw one.

I'll post the obverse and reverse of my badge and will try to do some close ups of the strange corrosion on this badge tonight. On this pic you don't get the correct feeling of the corrosion. In reality it's redish/brown and when you rub it it just feels like plain rust on the body of a car.
