APB? Question

I just found this APB badge and it was listed as “silver”. This is not my area at all. I have been studying all the forms on the APB. Can you guys help me with this? It appears real to my eye however, what is that chemical reaction? These are very difficult and I am just learning any help from a veteran would be greatly appreciated.
As a new guy: The detail on the snake seems ok? I noticed (to the left of the skull) a sorta of “anomaly” I think it was suspicions sorta look like a ring from the camera? shouldent there be another leaf next skull? It just looked old.
On the other hand, is this a fake- the chemical reaction was a backfire or something? I have no idea have not seen one like this.

Yes it looks like a good type 1 from these photos. I have seen this reaction before...but can't really remember where. Have you tried a little Vaseline soak?

No I havent, I was wondering if I should even buy it, not sure what it is worth in condition like this? I read about the soak tho

APB looks like an original one, about the chemical reaction I don't know. Hard to tell why this badge is in this condition, for sure it was bad stored.
