    IAB for review

Im considering purchasing this IAB from a dealer, but I am under the assumption that pockmarks and pitting like this are a sign of being a cast fake.I also have concerns about the eagles face.
Can anyone give this one a good blessing,or is it junk?

Looks like an original IAB to me that has suffered from prolonged dampness.

      Hi

I agree with Tim that this is an original. It may even have been ground dug, as the whole surface has issues.

I would guess that the little pin that goes through the ball hinge, and holds the main pin, is likely a replacement.

This is classed as a JB&Co design, and the head looks "normal" for this type.

      best regards
      Graeme

        Good eye Graeme!

I was looking at this attribute and it reminded me of one I have.

I have always considered this bronze to have a replacement hinge pin...My opinion has not changed yet but I find it interesting that this one has the same style attachment method.

            Hi Graeme

I was just going to post in this thread. Today, I found this JB&Co Design with the same replaced hinge pin?

Curious these seem to have the same pin replacements... coincidence?

Could these have left the factory with the hinge pin without being trimmed flush with the hinge?

            Best Regards, fischer

                Hi Fischer

I guess there is always that possibility, but imo probably not. Certainly the first and third badges in this thread have definitely suffered in their life, and this may be a factor in why the pins are as they are. The third badge, in fact may even have the long pin replaced as this does not look textbook to me.

I have seen a few JB&Co designs with missing pins, and maybe the answer is that the little pin was not such a good fit and therefore a bad design, necessitating the simple repairs that we see.

                cheers
