Perhaps measurements and weight will determine the base metal.

            Hello guys,

When I held a same piece in my hands the weight was 30.1grams

So, I think it's a good zinc badge.

            All the Best,
            Gabor

These are tough and faked on a large scale. I get a little confused searching the forum archives and wonder how many good RS flaks have been given and vice versa.
As for this one, the metallurgy looks like this one from my files which was deemed a fake. These are always going to be tricky due to Souval's known post war production.

I looked in the Flak Badge book and Marc Garlasco wrote there, that the:

                - Zinc, marked "R.S." weight is 33.6grams, the Height is 59.7mm and the Width is 44.0mm

                - Zinc, with variant catch weight is 29.6grams, the Height is 59.6mm and the Width is 44.2mm.

                Best regards,
                Gabor

                  Hello Frank,

IMO we can see there on this fake Souval a brass catch and a brass hinge.

Here is an other orig Souval Heer Flak, what I found in this forum some months ago.....

                  Best,
                  Gabor

The base material of the badge in question is definitely not zinc, rather a modern alloy. The shown badge in post 23 is an original one. This is what an original zinc badge (of RS, Vienna) should look like.

                          Hello Daniel,

Here is my Minesweeper R.S. Bagde with lost finished from directly the family. The catch same, the hinge same as on this Heer Flak.
We may think that the material is a modern alloy, because the surface on the front side and the reverse is very "black" and very smooth.

                          Best regards,
                          Gabor

                              Hello Gabor,

I would not doubt your minesweeper, but I see some serious differences regarding the base material between your minesweeper and the FLAK badge, that started this thread.

                              Regards,

                              Daniel

With all due respect to the original post I find it ridiculous to determine metallurgy based on crap photos. Looks zinc to me, but then my sister in laws breast look original too.... But I like what I see.
