      Hi Dave,

Based upon what I can see on the poor quality pics I have my doubts. The design of this GAB is identical to the JFS marked semi-hollow GAB and we all know these are fakes.

I'm not only convinced that there are original GAB's with that design but I also believe in the existance of screw-back GAB's. However because it's always the same questionable design that seems to pop up as a screwback I personnaly stay away from this type.

        Dear Dave,

There were many of these sold at the Max show a few years ago. Some people say they are fakes since the badge does not have the stabalizing pin at the top of the badge to prevent it from spinning after it has been affixed to the uniform. (I do not see a stabilizing pin on this one either) Others state that it is a rare variation - these soild for about $125 USD a few years ago at the Max xhow.

All of the ones I have seen that are screwback are of this pattern and all are marked A for Assman. The badge itself is very thin but heavy.

        Hope this helps.

Thanks everyone for the help and advice!! One thing I would like to ask is about the JFS semi hollow GABs,are the marked ones fake and the un-marked ones original or are the un-marked ones repro as well?

          Cheers

          Dave

            Totally fake Dave.

They are also very much larger than an original GAB.

I know, because I used to have one.

            Regards ...

              Hi Walther,

Do you still have a picture of that badge?

They are noticeably heavier than any good solid back GAB. I also fell for this badge about six or seven years ago. Sadly, I do not have a picture either to share.

I may have. Also I may have an article on the badge from Military Magazine (I think from the late 1980's) that a friend from New Zealand photcopied for me.

It seems that they are being sold again 20 odd years after they were originally made.

I shall look in about 12 hours time.

If I find the photos of my fake GAB I will post on the forum and if I find the article I could scan and forward to you OR photocopy and post.

Philippe, I will PM you in approx 11-12 hours time.

                  All the best ...

A known and old fake! We had pics of it in here in some older threads.
