This looks like a grumpy looking "S.h.u.Co" eagle. Am I correct in assuming this to be the maker? Many thanks!

I see, but IMO, it's only a very tiny amount of rust corrosion going on. He did say steel/magnetic...

In my opinion it's a bronze grade and the brighter areas on the reverse is just the light.

Hi Ken,
I see the rust corrosion on the front, but not on the back. The dark colour of the back is in my opinion bronze finish and if you have a close look on the front you can see it as well. Furthermore if you take the pictures in photoshop for making them darker there's no silver finsih in my opinion.
I think it's the same type of badge like yours!

IMO, a steel Heubach in silver. The darker regions are in fact rust corrosion, which is minuscule, but there nonetheless. The silver finish has bubbled some on the rifle butt. Here's a link to the only other bronze I've seen here so far and looks exactly like the one I've shown: http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/foru...l+bronze+shuco

Hi guys,
probably you are right. It's the first time that I see a steel SHuCo IAB without any finish left. Actually steel IABs are known in my opinion for their good stability of the finish. For me it was a bronze grade, because of the dark colour on the reverse. I thought that silver grades would be much mor bright if the finish is faded.
Maybe better pictures without direct light would be helpful to be absolutely sure
@Ken: Just because you know just 2 examples of them it could be possible that there are still 1000s of them out there :-)
The silver grade was very rare too one day but the there was a horde found and now you'll find them very often.
@Monty: Can you please post pictures at day-light without direct light on the badge?
Best regards
Sven

Sven. What you just said could apply to just about any TR medal or badge with regards to a "hoard find", so don't profess false prophet there. So far, and the reality is, there are only 2 known bronze (5 stem Heubach) recorded here -and on the "other Forum" (you know where). Further, I can't fathom how you see anything but a silver grade, even from the backside, from the one that started this thread. I also think you miss the point, with regards to the "historical significance", regarding these steel issue badges by Heubach --which came earlier than their mass produced zinc counterparts. I sleep well at night, knowing that mine isn't part of any "hoard find".
PS.: According to Christian (MB), there are maybe 5 known worldwide...

Hi Ken,
what I've wrote was not criticism on you and I know that your beautiful badge isn't from a horde found!!! Furthermore you know that I'm really happy for you that you've got your beauty!!!
I was just not sure if it's a silver or bronze grade. I got a bronze badge too one day and there were lots of people who thought that ii is a silver grade because of the light. In my opinion better pictures would be helpful to be absolutly sure!
Best regards

Sven. I am astonished that you would require additional pictures of the backside of a badge that's clearly a silver grade. I can't understand what you are trying?? to see. I hate to disagree so strongly with you here, and, she's not the only game in town, as there are other fish in the sea of the bronze to hunt down, like the early Paul Meybauer -which also, almost never comes up for sale.
