And the finish is disappearing. Normally you would expect a boxed award to keep its finish since the badge is not exposed to the elements. The badge is mint otherwise. Could be a bad zinc mix or bad finish mix?

Check out the green marked sections in comparison with Colorado´s badge for a positive match identification. Especially the matches on the right side are impressive.

        Hi Guys,

wow, thanks for the help, I'm pretty sure it's a good badge. it was a house call pickup along with the bronze hollowback marked to (Assmann) my badge does look like Colorado's only clasp is different. Philippe, here are a few shots of bronze badge.
        Thanks,
        Kevin

          Hi Guys,

Frank that's indeed a perfect match, no doubt. Well just more proof that you never seen it all in this hobby. Think I need another name to fit this one im my files. I really would like to know the sales rep responsible for selling f this design. This guy for sure was the most succesful in his field.

Thanks for posting the addition pics of that very nice Zink Assmann Kevin

Frank - You have a memory like a steel trap! Thanks for bringing some light to the mystery on my badge. Even though some poo-poo'd it, I knew it was original when I got it, given the source.

Concerning the box, I am not 100% sure that is the original box to the badge. It just came in it. It may have been worn and returned to it or another box.

Thanks for that compliment, Jeff! But in fact, I just have a large harddrive with many stolen pics put into a good order to compare things easily. And when you use it each day, sometimes things indeed do slip into your permanent memory!

Danke, Stefan! Man lernt hier nicht nur über Orden sondern übt auch sein Englisch. Zwei Fliegen mit einer Klappe!

                    Hi Guys,

Here ia another one with the same pin setup, but not the same catch, also note that the back is not half hollow like the Wernsteins, but dished, front is standard Werstein. This is the only one like this I have seen, anobody have one of these?

                    Regards,

                    Anthony

                            Hi Chet,

EXACTLY the same, I wonder if it is a Wernstein die with just another back that a smaller manufacturer might have used?

                            Regards,

                            Anthony

                              Hi Anthony

It's just one more Wernstein design amongst at least a dozen used by both known and unknown maker. As far as I'm concerned there is absolutely no way we can ever find out who made these badges. It could be a unmarked variant of one of the known users of this design (AWS, EWE, RSS, RS, Wernstein or Fo) or just any unkown company.

PS Both yours and Chet's example are extremely well preserved badges, most of the time you'll find them with almost all their finish gone.

Philippe, I think we can rule out several of these guys. For example EWEs all have a lot of hand finishing on the reverse. All the RSSs I've seen have a different look to the reverse, like the die didn't fit correctly. JMHO but with some careful comparisions I think we could narrow the field. Of course there will always be the "unknowns" that muddy the water.
