Interesting take on the eagle head, which isn't typical of the "Vienna" designed badges. Looks like a thickly applied "ali" finish, which you don't see often. Nice.

It seems this type is quite rare. Cool badge!

          Hi Sven,

Very nice example, one of the more uncommon vienna variants to find. Congrats on another fine addition, finish is excellent on this one.

If it doesn't have a hinge and catch, I'm not interested......well, maybe a little

              Hi Sven

I agree with the others that you have found yourself a real beauty. This is one of my favourite unmarked designs. The eagle has something about it..

I refer to these as a "hollow rifle" vienna design, I think the deep and soft scoops sound like ice creams but each to their own.

These do come in a variety of finishes and show up occasionally in excellent condition like yours, with a chrome like finish. Because they were elusive, I can remember snapping up an example with hardly any finish.

The fact that these can be found with a couple of other very interesting set ups, should please you.

              congrats

Noticing this badge I thought maybe one I have may be of the vienna style, but I may be wrong, so is this badge below the same vienna style or a totally different maker all together ?? It has a lot of similarities , but being similar doesn't always mean it's the same.

Hi. Your badge is also a known "Vienna Design" variant, but not the same badge that started the thread. The eagle head on yours is "typical" among the Vienna variations, while the one that started the thread is rather unique. The maker on both badges is still unknown and likely from 2 different manufacturers.

Thanks for clearing that up ken. (ps. I kinda think the one i posted may have been a bronze originally, as it seems to retain a bronzish finish on the pin, if I am not mistaken, as this type of base metal never seems to hold the finish after time and after exposure to moisture , and adverse weather conditions)

I talked to Tom Durante on the finish absorption on some of the zinc based badges and it's a matter of the quality of zinc on the later issues, which was a lower grade zinc -hence the higher rate of finish absorbing into the badge.

                            Hi Sven,

A great example and one of my favourite designs too

Congratulations on adding another beauty to your growing IAB collection, probably the fastest growing collection I have ever seen

Hopefully there are only a couple more of setups because these guys are tough to be find

                            Best regards.

                              Hi Jordi

What a fantastic group photo. All stunning examples. The Bronze is very hard to find and in that condition... wow! Thanks for posting.

You have added the two other variant set ups I had in mind, and in my opinion, these are the nicest set ups of the three. It took me ages to find one with the ball hinge.

And your bronze example, imo, is really the "original" IAB, using the hinge and catch that this badge was actually designed for.. so possibly the earliest..

                              cheers
