    GAB Opinions...

    Hello All,

I am usually pretty good with badges but I have never seen this hinge on a BH Mayer design. Is this okay or am I not looking at it correctly???

    Regards,
    Chris G.

    Hi Chris,

Interesting, this is a bit different for me as well. I'm kind of scratching my head.

At first blush, it reminded me of a zinc version of unknown #2 in Frank's book, based on the eagle head, which unfortunately was later determined to be a fake. However, it seems to have "the look". I'll do some more digging.

Actually Chad...I think you are right...It looks to be a match of the UK #2

Damn! I hate taking stuff back...I feel like an idiot!

        Hi Chris,

I think Chad is right, its a repro with the hinge being the most questionable aspect. But I can see why this one was difficult, the finish and the wear on it is pretty believable. The catch also looks well done....a tricky one for sure.

If it doesn't have a hinge and catch, I'm not interested......well, maybe a little

            HAHA ! Thanks Daniel!

He was nice enough to take it back but I sure felt like an idiot. Chad you are now never aloud to go on business for this long again...so basically I blame you for not being with me!

            Regards,
            Chris

Glad he took it back. I must admit, that one is definitely scary.

              Hahahha, great reference Daniel.

Haha, my bad, but the kid is back. We can now wear matching shirts as we stroll the aisles again, haha

As Chad stated, a scary badge indeed and in the hustle of a show it would be easy to get excited and buy it by mistake...

                  Hi Chris

With many of us staring at badges day in day out, it is enough to make us go nuts from time to time.

For me, with this fake, the bayonet handle is also a big giveaway.

                  cheers
                  Graeme

Yah the more I look at it the more I dont like it and can point out things that should have been a give away for me. The badge itself doesnt have the detail you would expect to see on a NS badge other than the eagles face and the cutout are probably the worst I have ever seen.

                    Regards,
                    Chris G.
