Assuming it is original, it's a very rare item.

If it was not original, what time period would a fake or copy be made? The thing that makes me feel that it is original is the fact that it was brought back from Germany with other pieces. My Uncle was in Germany in the early 40's and my Dad served in the mid 50's. The patina on the back I have been told matches what would be original. Again; I have no idea and no experience. Thanks for the input.

Post-war copies/reproductions were being made and sold to souvenir hungry G.I.'s by the Germans as soon as the war ended and are still being made. Your example certainly does appear to have significant age and patina. However, it is such a rare award and there are undoubtedly so few originals to compare it to that I certainly wouldn't claim to have the expertise to definitively say if it is original or not but I will say that I like what I've seen in the pictures you posted and have no reason to believe that it's a copy/reproduction.

If you have a close look at this one it really looks like your common swaz pin and the prop crudely added by cutting out the swaz. Not typical of Junkers workmanship.

Though it is always hard to tell from a macro-photo like this.

If you think about it why would one firm make the full size badge and another the mini especially when there would be a very small market for either (perhaps 100+) Would of been an expensive mini at the time to produce so few.

Received this response from a collector overseas.

Hi Mike, I have research little, one set from this badge was sold in Herman Historica 3-4 auctions ago. There was also miniature from this badge. Here is description from auction:

SA-SS Pilot's Badge.

Silvered non-ferrous metal issue, partially enamelled in black, applied propeller device. Reverse attachment needle marked "Wurster Mark Neukirchen". The 16 mm miniature is included. A rare badge of the SS and SA flying units, existing only for a short period of time in 1933.

The set was sold for 2300 Eur. I think that you have a good offer.
