    GAB.....Real?

First, badges are way out of my area of knowledge. I admit for me trying to assess a German badge is like a dog trying to figure out how a microwave oven works.
This GAB comes from an elderly fellow I know and he's looking to sell it. He found it in a house he bought several years ago so there really isn't a story behind it. From going through threads here it looks good to me but.....
Since he doesn't know the history behind it prior to the 1970s it very well could be an old fake I suppose.
    Is it good?
And, if it is, what is a fair price? $175? He needs the money, I'm not looking to short change him and it is kind of a neat badge and since I'm thinking of just keeping it I'd be happy to give him a little more than "fair market" value.
    Thank you in advance!

    Eric

        I agree with Lee

and the tip of the catch may have an issue.

        regards

          Thanks Lee and Graeme

What's the issue with the tip of the catch? In person it doesn't look damaged but there is a little metal "sprue" or spur at the edge of the catch near the opening. The patina and metal is identical to the rest of the catch.
Are you thinking there might be a repair?

            Hi Eric

If it looks good in hand, I am sure it is fine. The last pic you posted gave me the impression of a crack near the opening.

            regards
            Graeme

              Hi Eric,

Nice S&L GAB with the "been there" look.

If it doesn't have a hinge and catch, I'm not interested......well, maybe a little

                Thanks guys
It does look like a crack but it's some "gunk", I hadn't noticed it until you mention it.
I hope this isn't the start of something, but I can see why people love collecting these things.
If what I'm offering the fellow is too low please just let me know.

                Eric

I think your offering of $175 is more than a fair offering. Realistically this GAB would sell in the $125-$135 range. And yes, I realize there must be someone out there who would pay more but he would be the exception.

                    Hi Eric......

......I think Tim's assessment is closer to the ballpark, if not squarely in it.

                    Good badge!

Excellent! Thank you again guys. I have my fingers crossed he'll come up with some other things he's found in the house.
