    Hi Guys
I just bought this CCC, how do you think the back plate?

    Cheers

One of the earlier large font AGMs in bronze, and in superb condition. Nice addition Eric.

Hi again Eric. I looked at the backside again and you might want to check the bluing? on the backplate. The lower crimp looks breeched? Or is that a manufacture flaw. I've added a pic of the area. The backplate looks a shade dark and has a scratch on it, like someone tested it for a repaint?

        Hi Ken

Here are the closing up pis, the lower crimp looks like a deform from hit or something, but not deep enough to pull out the back plate, so I think it is not a replaced backplate.

The paint is like black instead of blue, and yes the scratch may be a test on it.

Hi Eric. I like what I see. The backplate has a deeper shade of blue anodizing and has a wear pattern along the edges that I'm comfortable with also. Not a repaint and too bad about the crimp, but structurally very sound. Nice clasp, with a great looking finish.

Oh, just want to add that the reason for the darker "shade" of blue on this one, is due to the fact these blued backplates do "patinate" with age. No issues with regards to any type of repainting, seeing these clear close-ups.

P.S.: I know there's no such word as "patinate" and for "descriptive" purposes only.

                    Hi Eric,

I also think it is an original clasp, but would like to see some closeups of the catch. It looks a little funky for some reason. It may be nothing, but also the pin looks weird, like all the finish has been polished off of it for some reason. That also makes me think it might be a repair or replacement possibly since the wear on it does not seem to match the wear on the rest of the clasp.

The backplate looks very dark on the first pic and I had some concerns, but with your closeups I think it looks alot better and think it is probably fine. The missing part on the bottom is a little suspicious, but it doesn't look messed with at all and therefore I think it probably left the factory that way.

Large-font AGMuK clasps can be found with both black and blue backplates, so no worries on the color. The black plates are actually a bit more common to find IMO, making the blue plates a little more special when you find them.

                    Tom
If it doesn't have a hinge and catch, I'm not interested......well, maybe a little

If patinate is not a proper word it should be

Hi Tom Thanks to your reply
Here is more close up to the pin and the catch, there are more finishes on the other side of the catch, please pics, and the catch seems deformed?

It seems harder life on the the pin and the catch......

Hi Eric. The catch is a replacement, and the original mount, that held the hook, was shaved down to make the re-weld easier. The hole, where the original hook was in, would have to be cleaned out and/or re-bored, to accommodate the new pin and set the weld better. I agree with Tom that the long "banjo" pin has been polished slightly. From these pics, however, I don't see any tell tale signs that pin was replaced. Perhaps the pin got shined up, at the time of the repair. And, maybe the one crimp got hit during the repair as well. If a "period" repair, I'd expect more patina on the pin.

Definitely a replaced catch and a very unique one at that
