Tank Destruction Strip in Gold Question

What is the backing color for the Tank Destruction Strip in Gold? I have an original with a brown backing (veteran acquired) and I wanted to see what color backings are normally associated with this rare award. Thanks!

I can post pictures, by the way - I'm just not in the office right now.

Original backingshave been observed made from:
      olive-green canvas type material
      blue wool (dark blue)
      "army" green wool
      brown wool
      luftwaffe blue wool

PVAiG also seen with Yellow Wool backing.
Silver PVA's also seen with Black Wool backing, so I don't see any reason why Gold's shouldn't have Black backing.

Contrary to Chet's opinion that this thread is "worthless" I actually enjoyed learning the accepted colors of the TDB in Gold. Thank you to those who replied. I'll try to post pics tomorrow of mine, which is brown on the back. Have a great night!

Can´t say brown backing sounds impossible...

Type 2 tank on a gold background, with the weave in the black going in the proper direction -to the right. The brown material looks like late war stock, which is also feasible IMO.

Thanks, Ken. Any reason for the variations in backing color? I had one fellow dealer tell me that "brown is not the desirable color" and that "he'd never seen brown" but frankly, I didn't think backing color made a bit of difference, as long as the piece is real. Maybe he was just trying to buy it from me! Thanks in advance.

Everyone has an opinion on this because it's just a backing material, and it's impossible to prove, beyond a reasonable doubt, "why for", the different colors. I will throw this bone out there. The navy blue, most likely Kriegmarine, the black for Tank personnel and so forth. And, I say this only loosely. These came in wool, and also some sort of canvas cloth -which probably came earlier. In the case of your "brown" example, and it's hard to say, what "branch" of service the guy it was issued to -other than the material looks legit, but later issue, coarser, wool stock. You'd have to compare 50-100 on your table top before you got a good feel "IMO". If you go that route, watch what "type" of tank was applied with the corresponding backer cloth.

Fascinating! And, I don't think I've ever seen 10 or 15 Gold TDBs in my life, certainly not in the same place
