    Unmarked Infantry Assault Badge Opinions

Hi Guys, I have been posting a few badges that I have had in my collection for quite some time. I think this badge is good but I just don't know. I also can't tell if it is Bronze or Silver. What do you think? Opinions greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    John

Your IAB is an unmarked one by "JB&Co" (Julius Bauer & Co.) and looks to have retained some of its original Bronze finish.

That and the fact the North American market collects/buys a little differently.

Most of my sales of late are overseas ones...and even those are for way less than what percieved value once was...alas.

You'd think that prices on WWII items would keep going up, not down to late 90's price tags. I think there's always hope something "better" turns up for a low price, which is reflective of how the market buys in these times. When times are good, thrice the price! Damn.

                          Well......

......when IAB's get down to $40 to $50 then we'll be talkin late 90's prices.

In the early 90's, yes, before the Internet, $40 - $50, on an IAB (almost) nobody knew anything about. By the late '90s, things had changed. The going rate on a "nice looking" one was around $125+. Then by 2000-2002, things changed again --probably because the online Dealer market was growing steadily.

Collectors today are going for rare and sniping more. Sure they'll buy zincers too, but only on the cheap -most of the time. An L/12 marked EK2 just sold for over $500 and it's retail asking price will probably be double that --maybe triple, if the economy picks up? Not, because someone else will dig deep in their wallet, and pay "the Premium". The good badges in between are the ones suffering the most in today's economy. We also don't see as many rare and desirable badges show up on the retail market, like we did in the early to mid 2000s. --Or anywhere for that matter.

                              I......

.....disagree on the timeline presented about pricing. For instance, I watched a marked Wiedmann GAB(with a generous amount of silvering on it) sit on Detlev's site, in the early 2000's, for the price of $49. It sat there for 3-4 months before there was a taker. I had condidered buying it myself(and now think I should have, of course), but someone else finally made the move on it. During the same period I bought a Krim Shield at auction on ebay(though perhaps this isn't that fair a comparison) for $18, from a seller in the USAF stationed in England. Detlev routinely priced his common IAB's and GABs in the $40-$50 range, during that period. Gold GWB's were priced anywhere from $50 to $75, depending on condition. I myself sold a nice zinc, late war dark grey finished, BH Mayer IAB in around 2003-2004 for $60, here on the estand. I could go on.

IMHO the prices we see today started their climb to the pinnacles of the present when Yahoo, followed by ebay, banned the swastika from sales items.
