Heer Flak - Interesting Collection

Hello All,

I like it when the opportunity presents itself to pick up an interesting item. This collection certainly fits the bill!

Based on the information provided and documentation on the back, a vet mounted thes items in an open frame and then poured about 1 inch of acrylic epoxy over the entire collection. He did this back in 1969.

There are a number of interesting pieces. They aren't quite "encapsulated" as the tight attachment to the backing might make it possible to liberate some of the items -- at the cost of destroying the collection. I am not sure I want to do this, but, I figured I would seek some opinions; particularly if the Heer Flak is a good one. (If it's not good, then this is a pre-1970 fake.)

These are the best shots that I can provide. I cannot get to the reverse without destroying the mounting. I've also included some of the PAB.

Interesting indeed.

The PAB and the flak looks believable, but it is impossible to tell from these pictures. Are the badges this hard to see in real life, or is it just blurry pics?

If this is how they appear in real life under the epoxy, then I don't think we will be able to tell for sure if they are good without popping them out to see the details and also to see the backs.

Yes, Tom. They are that difficult to photograph. The pictures aren't blurry - the items are buried in 1" of a not-very-optically clear material. Thank you for your thoughts!

.....quite a conundrum you're faced with, concerning whether or not to try and disasseble this set. Obviously, the shoulder boards could very well suffer due to the resin having soaked in. You might try to leave the cloth items encased, and just remove the metal awards. There may be a solvent that could dissolve the material, but of course you would have to use extreme caution during application and removal.

For myself, if the set were in my hands, I would attempt to remove the metal awards. As it is now, in the resin(if indeed that is what it is), this set is pretty ineffective display wise.
