    PAB in Bronze- opinions needed

I saw this pab at a show this morning and the guy is holding it for me until the end of the day. It has some good qualities and some things that I don't particularly understand. The seller was confident enough in it to let me take pics so here they are.
    thanks
    Don

Overall the quality of construction is good. Someone scratched the back and it appears to be made out of brass/tombak.

My question then is why the base plates on the hinge and catch?

That is a genuine badge - early example. Quite rare. I hope you went back to buy it.

AL- as an innocent bystander what are your credentials to say this is real and why? Notice you have 2 posts.

Yes, definitely a known fake. Just remember the "squished" eagleĀ“s head and you will always recognize it.

HereĀ“s my favourite one of that fake series, with blackened tank!

Also remember the bell bar treads (see above pic). I see they worked on the pin setup, much improved on your example!

I was going to mention the barbell tracks but I see I was beaten to it!

                          Hi Don,

I can only agree with the above, this, certainly in Germany, is the most encountered PAB fake and it comes in many, many disguises. When looked upon in a straight shot there is no problem, the ugly eagle head is an easy give away. When shot in an angle it can look very convincing due to the use of correct finish, material and set-up. The design is based on the not so often encountered so called S&L PAB. Here are some other variant's and I'll start with there newest project the cut-out grass variant, featuring the new and improved set-up :
