    Shuco Inf Assault

Hello out there, has anyone come across this double strike maker mark on this Inf Assault before? Just above and left of the maker mark a 's' and a 'h' can be seen?
    Regards,

Textbook hardware, with the leftward opening "C" catch and plate beneath. Mid-war badge. --Ken

I'm not an expert, but I really like the head of this manufacturer...

I can't say the photos do it justice, to be able to give it a fair judgement. The positioning of the MM is too high IMO....also doesn't seem to match up to the type usually encountered. Of course shuco's are highly repro'd. Lighting helps , but in these shots the hinge and hook plate cant be seen clearly.(too dark) Here are some comparison shots of one. How the double stamp could happen is beyond me , as the first position itself is too high from the start. Could this be a clever repro? Illleave that to the "experts" but anyway , look at these shots, and compare for yourself ..maybe they will help you decide for yourself .

What you have there, is the earliest issue in zinc (a 4 stem). Quite different from the one that started the thread, which is mid-war. --Best, Ken

                  Hi Tintin,

A fine original ShuCo IAB, no problems for me. The double-appearance of the maker mark can be seen sometimes on these, so not a problem IMO.

If it doesn't have a hinge and catch, I'm not interested......well, maybe a little

You will also find variation in the location of the mm on these. As far as any type of progression, early, mid or late...this is purely speculation.

                      Hi Don,

I completely agree, seems like no two have the mm in the exact same location. Same with the timeline progression, its all speculative IMO whether one is earlier or later than the other.

Here's something else to speculate. Rank may have played a part in what "type" IAB etc. a soldier would have been awarded. Ever wonder why there were both finishless and Rhodium plated (NS) Juncker IABs? The quality of finishes varied greatly on the S.H.u.Co series of "Assaults" --probably for the same reason. --Best, Ken

There is also another speculative factor to consider, and that might be a different die was used, as some of the finer details seem to have some different features. Still, the lighting in the photos, do not allow clear views of the badge and it may just be the reason it appears tthat way. That is also another reason i don't clean badges up. Like in the case of this zincer shuco, bronze finish can still be seen on back edges of the rifle , otherwise removed if I HAD cleaned it . I thought by the photo , it appeared like the base plate for the hook was cast into the badge , instead of being seperately soldered.
