Authenticity ? about the wear of Infantry and Panzer Assault bages

Gentlemen, I am a member of a WWII Reenactment group that portrays a panzergrenadier company in the 20th SS Panzergrenadier Regt. 9th SS Panzer and I have a question about the wearing of assault badges. I have read on sites and other forums that a panzergrenadier would have been awarded a bronze panzer assault badge instead of the bronze infantry assault badge. Is this correct? or would either one be correct? Any help that could be given would be much appreciated.

    Thanks
    Russ

    Hi Russ

Bronze IAB, introduced 1.6.40, was given to Motorised Infantry units, Bronze PAB, introduced 1.6.40, was given to crews of armoured vehicles other than panzers, I.e SP's, Pz Gdr personnel and medical Personnel. The crews of armoured cars were also elegible for this award. Hope this helps

the cover of "Panzergrenadiers in Action" squadron/signal publication shows a drawing of a officer with both the IAB and PAB along with a woundbadge and IC 1st class....a B/W photo of same picture on page 30, He appears to be wearing a bronze PAB and a Silver IAB...so here's an example of both....

to add to the confusion in the book "Hitlers Teutonic Knights" there is a picture of a tank commander in a Panzer IV with a silver IAB and a tank commander in a stug III with a GAB.....

I'd find a historic photo you like of a soldier and just copy that....
