    Holow back IAB original?

    Hello WAF friends,

I have found this nice looking hollow back IAB badge. Could you help me and tell me is it an original piece.
    Thanks a lot.

      Hello,

For me it looks like original BH Mayer hollow zinc variant, without any finish. But wait for other guys, mainly for Graem, Hans or Tom. They should tell you.

      Best Regards,

      Marek

        Milanche:

Either your camera isn't picking-up the finer details of your badge, or you are showing a 'reproduction' in my opinion [based on the 13 various examples] I just matched it up to that I have in my possession.

Your photo is not showing the "pimples" that are always found on the leaves. I looked at 13 of my badges that are different makers & different pattern & referred to 'hollow' & 'solid' backed pieces & all have these "pimples" very visible. Even my cheap late-war zinc pattern '44/45' has these "pimples".

Marek, thank you for your opinion and help. I am waiting for members you mentioned to give their wise advice.

Ron, thanks for looking and commenting. I took pictures at militaria fair with my Mobile phone. Pictures are not the best but I hope they will be enough to make a judgment of the piece. I need help with this IAB so I can make a final decision to take it or not.

              Hi Milanche,

I agree with Marek and Hans, this is a fine original Mayer IAB in zinc, but has lost almost all its original silver finish. I think the brighting lighting is washing out alot of the finer details mentioned by Ron.

If it doesn't have a hinge and catch, I'm not interested......well, maybe a little

Thanks Hans, Your help is always very appreciated

Tom, you're right. I think my camera did very wierd white bias while I was making a photo with my mobile and that is why finer details are not visible (but I think still there).
Silver finish is completely gone and it looks like it was never there (!?). Is that common?
I do have to mention that badge is (originally) slightly vaulted. Catch goes straight but leaves and rifle are curved. I forgot to take picture of that

                  Hi Milanche

I am of the same opinion as the other guys.

Here is one from my collection for you to compare. I believe it is similar to yours, it certainly has the same set up as your badge.

                  regards
                  Graeme

Ron, I agree, details are hard to see from the pics posted. But comparing details of this badge to badges from different makers is not going to be of much use in this case. There are many different designs. However the badge I posted does have some "pimples" in the leaves

                    @Graeme

Thank you very much for your help. Your IAB looks batter than mine, but I think, I got a fair price for the one I have shown here and since I don't posses hollow variant I will go for it

Today I received by mail another nice TR badge. This time it is unmarked GAB. Please, take a look, and tell me something more about that badge. I will start new thread in a minute.

                    Very best,
                    MilanChe
