    Salesman sample board

Quick question! I recently picked up a salesman sample board of medals. It's mid to late war quality (zinc medals) sewn or pinned through cardboard. My question is:

Is the grouping worth MORE because it's all together on a salesman sample board or is the grouping only worth the individual prices of the medals?

Don't worry, I'm not going to break it up! I just need to know.

    Thanks - Jack

    Jack,
It's all in the eye of the beholder. Some may place more value on it and yet others will only put value on the medals themselves.

    Zinc stinks!

IMO most collectors would put a premium value on them being on the original salesman's sample board but, per the above comment, some would not.

A couple guys have asked for pictures, so here you go. The board wasn't stored very well (it's right out of an estate, never been in a collection) so there's 60 years worth of dusty crud on it, water stains, etc. One medal is missing as you can see, and the Red Cross medal has an Anschluss ribbon on it -- but it was attached that way originally! Enjoy the pics, comments welcome!

            Very nice item!

Salesman board (your door to door medal salesman) or 1945-1946 GI souvenir?

            Best regards,
            Michel

Thank you Michel! It is very professionally done -- you can see the consistency in the sewing and attachment of the medals, and that the paper backing ORIGINALLY covered the prongs. It looks like the shields and spange were taken off and put back on at least once. I'd be very surprised if a GI went to all this trouble, and because it shows a variety of medal types that goes along with the notion it is a sales piece.

I would sell them individually, this does not look very decorative on that old, dirty paper board. The awards still look nice though.

I'd never take apart a historical piece like this, but I agree it could stand a gentle cleaning.

There is no way to know if this was a salesman board or a put together shortly after the war for souviner hungry GI's.

What an arrogant and downsetting way to approach people?? But, of course this is not the first time you do this.

I thought the exact same thing my friend. Disappointing.

These badges are fixed to a rotten piece of carton board. It would be way better taking these pieces off this board and prevent them from further damage. There is no need for any melodramatic "oh I won´t take apart history" talk. Get a grip.

Karsten my friend, I won´t take the bait. This would end up with me getting an infraction and you some red ears...

                            Love and kisses.
