Hello forum. Was going through some badges recently, and thought I'd toss a few pix of this one up on the forum as I believe it might be a Tombak example. The camera flash did brighten it up a bit, but overall it retains virtually all of its silver wash, and has exquisite detail throughout. The hinge and "C" catch are soldered directly to the badge (no mounting plate), and it's a solid-backed example. A few pix for your perusal...It certainly doesn't appear to be a zinc-er (to ME at least).

I agree with Hans, this is a zinc badge. Some of the Ludenscheid makers (Deumer included) used a very fine zinc, with low impurities so it can almost look silver if it is polished up a good bit like this one appears to be.
TomIf it doesn't have a hinge and catch, I'm not interested......well, maybe a littleNew Book - The German Close Combat Clasp of World War II

Thanks for the comments gents. If it's zinc, it's got to have about the finest finish I've ever come across, (not even any bubbling). As for it's having been polished or cleaned, rest assured, it's un-touched (I know the source from whence it came...direct vet lot out of a shoebox from decades-long storage). The camera flash makes it come up brighter than it is in person, but the finish is indeed quite excellent. I don't have the actual weight, but also haven't seen its exact twin (from a design perspective), in any of my books (including the new series on combat badges). If one of you gents can provide examples by the maker(s) you mentioned for comparison's sake, I'd love to see them. Thanks!Last edited by Milton; 03-14-2012, 10:09 PM.
