    GAB opinion please

A few years ago I bought this general assault badge. It looks a little damaged, and it is unmarked. Is it real? And if so, what is the maker? thanks in advance.

Well Andy here I am with critics again. This is one of the 4 badges I found in 1999 south of Berlin with my detector. These badge is found in the middle of the german forest, in this condition. It is a badge that is 100% original. It is an original battlefield relic and I have withnesses. Are you talking with knowledge or are you having a big fantasy. Youre reaction says more to me about youre level of knowledge than you say about my badge. For me it is that some do not know anything about the subject and just scream something.

                    Hi guys,

Looks to be an original, but ground dug IMO.

If it doesn't have a hinge and catch, I'm not interested......well, maybe a little

Oops, just saw bleau's post that he dug this one up in 1999

The one Andy shows is a known copy, that Heukemes shows in the GAB book. But you will notice that the clue to these fakes is the sides of the eagle on the reverse, which follow the contour of the badge. Whereas the original that bleu shows has the reverse edges straight (as is normal for originals IMO).

That´s very interesting. But I would like to add, if you want to play hide and seek with me, you will have to play that alone, simply because I am not in the mood for this. If you have info on your badges, you are not willing to share, than please do so, but don´t expect me to answer your threads, because I won´t do it anymore.

The badge you posted shows some weird reflection on the obverse, which made me believe it was some sort of casting out of brass. This material would indeed indicate a copy. If you would know how an original zinc awards looks like, you would also get a little suspicious. The hardware on your badge is usually made out of tombak, the hardware on your badge looks like it is made of the same alloy as the badge, which also might indicate a casting.

                        Happy collecting my friend!
