          Magnetic vs Non-magnetic

Hello Guy's, I would like to say this: I have always based my opinion on magnetic vs non-magnetic on the simple fact that out of the hundreds of badges I had the chance to examine in the hands of German Vets, Never did I encounter a non-magnetic badge. I have seen some good looking non-magnetic badges over the years, but I always put my money where the facts are. Since I have never been able to find the name of a single German Firm that produced TDB's it's impossible to say if I'm 100% correct on this matter. As we all know there are NO true experts in this hobby ! So I wrote my book with the facts on hand as I saw them. Thanks, Tom

And, I respect your handling of the subject Mr. Breyette. I just think it's cool to be able to participate in this, right now, after 11 years. Whew! Some interesting stuff in here IMO, but that's open to debate one way or another.

I am by no means a expert on these TDB's but I do like study them and try to handle as many as I can get my hands on at shows and I certainly don’t have 40 years of experience. I am in no way ever going to write a book on them or any other badge, as of right now. I am just not interested in doing anything like that. I will, however, give my opinion when I feel strongly about something like these nonmagnetic TDB's.

I really like Ron's Gold TDB which appears to be a nice type 3 & I also like the TDB without the silver tab which one appears to be a good type 2b.

I think it would be unfair to say that they can only be magnetic as many times this sort of thing has damned good badges in the past. Just like everyone thought all WH Wien Heer Flaks are bad or RS badges are bad…the list goes on.

              Regards,
              Chris G.

I concur Chris. As far as Ron's type 1, do you think the "bows" are a possible casting flaw or maybe point to a reproduction? I'm no expert either because before this thread started, I was in the belief that all TDBs were magnetic. Anyone else have one like it?

                  Your opinion

Hey Chris, I respect your opinion. I stand by mine. I'll never have to justify a TDB when I decide to sell.
