    GAB Opinions sought

    Hello,
I would like your opinions on this GAB wether good or bad and approximate value.
It has a nice champagne coloured finnish.
    Thankyou in advance.

I'm not a huge fan, the cut out between the eagle's wing and the handle on the grenade is very sloppy and details are very soft, looks like it may be a cast of an original RK GAB, but not original IMO, though I am no expert. Lets see what others have to say. Hinge also looks like it has cast marks on the top, I'm not liking this one at all the more I look at it.

Judging from the backside, I'd say original. However, the better ones have the deeper, grooved out detail on the backside. From the front, I'd say, it's seen a hard life. I'm not a fan of this GAB either, but not because of the condition.

I would agree with Dave, feathers, grenade grip and swaz look a little fishy to me.

              William,

could you show us a pic with open hinge showing the area were the pin "scratches" into the metal of the eagles head?

The hinge block matches this one deemed original in a previous thread. The flattening on the pin's a good sign, but the lack of detail on the obverse should draw pause. No grey zinc bleeding though for the detail that remains? May have been buffed or touched up?

I agree, that is exactly what is a little alarming. I thought the grey base metal might be visible on that spot...

It's an original badge, but like I said, the more desireable ones in solid zinc have more scooped out backs and very detailed front-sides. This is a later model of a late RK, but the finish and soft detail leave much to be desired on this example.
