          Hi Casey,

I can only agree with the others, the GAB is a common fake but the IAB is a very uncommon and desirable type. Nice finish on that one as well.

If it doesn't have a hinge and catch, I'm not interested......well, maybe a little

sorry but I can not agree with zinc. I see golden shining metal under the finish....it looks like tombak.

The hollowback IAB is made by an unknown maker, but referred to as a "Vienna" design. I've only seen and own an example which are zinc based. I'm not saying it's impossible yours could be tombak, but surely you can provide a close-up of the area where the brass? is showing through.

The arrows indicate where zinc corrosion (known as zinc pest) have occured. This would be consistent only to a badge made from zinc.

Actually, it appears somebody may have tried to Crazy glue the top right wreath back to the badge. I'm not surprised as these are made very thin in that area and susceptible to cracks/breaks. Too bad my friend... See my arrow indicated.

I agree, there looks to be a possible repair. Close up pics might show it better..

                      Still a nice badge

                      regards

This is a 100% Zink badge.

                        regards Michou

                          Hi Casey,

I can only agree with Michou, this is a zinc badge. We have never found one of these in tombak, so if you would like to post some better closeups we can tell for sure what we are looking at. But based on the grey appearance of the obverse in areas where the silver finish has evaporated, this is a zinc badge.

Here's a couple pics Tom. I had to replace the one some turkey dropped a long time ago at a local show. The "repair" is actually a light re-inforcement to prevent a crack in that area, as the photos indicate no "crack" on the obverse.

Hi all. Just want to say openly that this Vienna hollowback IAB arrived today. The good news is, is that more finish is left (almost all) than the photos indicate. It does have a pleasing (untouched) combat worn look. However, it has been carefully re-inforced with a special clear superglue at two critical areas where the wreath usually gets comprimised on this type. It's a bloody rare bird and I am happy with it. I didn't pay the motherload either....
