Allan, nice badge and packet but IMO that is another SchuCo. Badge doesn't match the packet.

        Hi Allan,

Is this the one we talked about on the phone ? Very nice packet, these plain packets like this one dupe people into thinking they are 'fake', indeed they are not; having said that there are dubious and out right fakes that look similar (very) to this style of packet; so their concerns are not without reason.

I personaly would take a guess at saying this is an earlier (1940-41 maybe plus, but not to be deemed as late war) war packet: my deduction for this which is personal and based more on gut feeling is that in my limited experience packets of this 'paper' type are more often encountered with the 'Flower War medals', namely the Czech of which I have a very late issue of in tissue paper, packet, citation and soldbuch. This along with other findings has lead me to this 'open' belief for now.

There are however later versions, but they do some what differ........that can be for another day, and it's not gospel more Marcus conjecture and theory; I will get to the bottom of all though !

Speak to you very soon Allan,

        Kind regards,

        Marcus

PS Allan would you say this in your extensive knowledge of packets and ownership, this is a good quality of paper, has a feel of thickness to a degree.

Just by looking at yours I'd deduce this, fakes tend to be much thinner. You'll also notice a slight sheen almost on the paper, don't be alarmed by this......there is speculation that 'sheened' packets are fake, this is 6 of one and half a dozen of the other. Yet again

Here we have three examples of the Czech medal packet, they fit the same bill as your packet.

You'll notice however the designation on the front of your packet appears to be more feint, faded if you like.......which is reasonable to assume, considering the age and other factors of it's life. (compared to makers name on reverse, these were roll printed as one, for the better part if not mostly 99.9% of the time)

It is also conceivable to suppose that these plain packets were 'recycled' by printing a designation of other awards made by the medal comapny. On another thread there is such a purported packet (in my opinion) and I believe they also at times did this; by various means. (Also they are restamped packets, designation wise and makers name....all sorts)

Don't think sterotype German or it's Third Riech so it has to be perfect, at the end of the day it's a crappy packet and these people were in business to make money.....simple. Wars are good for business, lets not waste materials or time, which is indeed money.

I believe in my novice opinion Allan the type set is more than acceptable also for the period, and I have no contention with it at all.

          A very nice packet.

          Kind regards,

          Marcus

And another, earlier left 1940 issued packet and the later variant of 1943-44 issue.

              Hi Marcus,

Can't disagree with anything you say.

I think that earlier packets are better quality, and of course as the war progressed quality gave way to availability. After all it was only a wrapper.

I think this expllains why no one gets particularly concerned when a packet with a manufacturer's name doesn't match up with the award inside it!!!

As I've said before I reckon that Jewellers had a stock of packets for all types of awards under the counter and when an award or medal was sold, no particular attention was given to the packet matching up with the award.

Think of jewellers today, the number of packets box's they have under the counter.

Yes, modern fake packets have in my opinion (well a lot of them anyway) a kind of plastic sheen to them, and the type of paper, like card in a way. Very difficult trying to explain it!!
